There’s no place like home…
We may have temporarily closed our doors at Finishing Touches in the last 6 months, but we have continued to work hard remotely & are happy to say we’re now back in the shop and open to appointments.
A lock-down might not be much fun, but it's important for everyone's health & safety - so, like us, we hope you're making the most of your time inside by doing all those odd jobs you usually put off till tomorrow. Tomorrow is now today folks.
If you've been longing to apply a fresh lick of paint or start a full face lift of your home, now is the perfect time to get creative for spring. And if you've visited us in the George Arcade, you will have read our motto we’ve adopted in house from William Morris:
"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful"
Sometimes, just moving the furniture around and clutter clearing can refresh your room & also your mind. With a building site at home from our new extension, it's time for me to practice what I preach. Never have I found it so hard to start afresh! A million small decisions make a home. From the latch on the window, all the way down to the cord on the kitchen blinds. I understand the dilemma of choosing the right style, fabric or colour for each room. All on a budget.
My rule for choosing what you want has always been based on following your heart. Yet, as surrounded as I am by colour & texture every day in my showroom, I’m a kid in a candy shop that needs reining in. So I’ve used this time indoors, to get in touch with our newly restyled & expanded 1980's end of the terrace home.
We added three metres of bi-fold doors that let in so much light, that it cheers my soul! And now I just have to decide on which fabric to put up there. Stripping the house back to its shell allowed us to re-imagine how we wanted to live in the space. It’s all about a fresh perspective. Is this what social distancing is giving us? A different perspective on life, our loved ones and the planet?
Colour and Design is a therapy that soothes the soul and improves mental well being. It will always be part of who I am. Life isn’t monochrome, it is loud and messy, bright, colourful and it needs living. Even if that’s inside the confines of your own home for now. So go find your therapy......
If you're taking this opportunity, like us, to reconnect with your home, as well as your family, then fear not! We have a dedicated team working from home who are on hand to help. Also, keep an eye out for our involvement with Sarah Beeny in her new show 'Renovate don't Relocate'.
